Some interview tips:

  • Prepare well
    Do your research, find out all you can about the company and the industry that they operate in. Solid preparation can greatly increase performance, reduce fear and increase confidence. Give some though to banker questions and work on answers that you are comfortable with and can that you can articulate. Try to find someone to role-play the interview with beforehand.
  • Be punctual
    Arrive on time 10/15 minutes before the interview time. You will be more relaxed, can gather your thoughts and run through the interview in your head.
  • Personal appearance and presentation
    Sounds obvious but you have to look smart. Be extremely nice and courteous to everyone you meet starting with the receptionist. Upon being introduced to the interviewer/s. Give a firm handshake and wait until you are asked to be seated. Make sure that you remember their names.
  • Body Langauge
    Sit upright and forward, do not slouch or cross your arms.
  • Be positive
    Avoid negativity at all costs particularly about previous roles, employers and companies. Keep your comments positive
  • Enthusiasm
    Be enthusiastic but not over the top Over enthusiasm can be perceived as desperation and can kill your chance of landing a job but lack of enthusiasm is a real show stopper.
  • Listen
    The interviewer asks questions for a reason, it is vital that you hear the question and answer it as directly as possible. If you are unclear about a question that has been asked seek clarification. Do not let yourself waffle.
  • Know your CV
    Be comfortable with your CV. Be able to back up what you say you can do with solid examples.
  • Believe in yourself
    You have the potential to defeat yourself before you even arrive at interview. Doubt and defeating self talk reduce the chances of interview success. Don’t fall into this trap. Be positive and confident. You are the person the company is looking for.
